Chapter 146: Please Enter the Nirvana
Go all the way to the deepest part and the golden lotus returns.
Sitting on the golden lotus was an old Buddha with a strange face and not much flesh on his body, like a piece of dry firewood, and covered with a roll of cassock.
"Donor, you are here. What brings you here?" asked the old Buddha.
Gu Qingyuan stood up and bowed, bowing to the Buddha in his heart: "I want to ask the Buddha why the world is like this."
The old Buddha sighed and said, "I am originally the Medicine Buddha. I saw that the evil spirits in the underworld were obsessed with many things and could not be freed, so I have been sitting here for a long time to save the souls of the dead."
"Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva? Or are you going to the underworld to earn merits?"
Gu Qingyuan couldn't help but think of a Buddha in his previous life, but the Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva gave up his Buddhahood and vowed to save all living beings from suffering. But this glass Buddha, with the appearance of a Buddha, went directly to the gate of the underworld to save the souls of the dead.
'No, there may be such reasons, but it is most likely that he is a child of the Buddha of the West Heaven in the underworld, and he is mutually restrained with the Yama of the underworld and the one belonging to the Heavenly Palace.'
The old Buddha was still saying: "Since the connection between the earth and heaven was severed, the incense has spread everywhere, and the gods, immortals, and ghosts have all kinds of troubles and resentments. They cannot be at peace, cannot be free, and are sinking in the sea of suffering."
"As a Buddha, Liuli Buddha saw the world and the underworld in such a state. Didn't he ever think of saving them?" Gu Qingyuan asked.
The Glazed Buddha sighed, "I have tried several times but failed. Besides, the fault is not with the world, but with the human heart. Immortals and ghosts were born from human hearts. When they fell into the mortal world, they had all kinds of desires. They were no longer like gods and no longer looked down on all living beings. Now the remaining immortals and ghosts pay homage to Luo Shang first and then to humans. They are nothing but mortals in the guise of immortals. However, it is easy to shake the heavens but difficult to shake the human heart. Even if I have great magical powers, how can I defeat the change of human mind?"
The Glass Buddha unfolded his robes, and the golden body inside collapsed, with cracks clinging to it: "Now my golden body has collapsed, and my pure mind is no longer there. It's like a clay statue crossing a river, I can't even save myself. The Glass Buddha no longer has a glass mind, how ironic." It is clear that he has absorbed the incense and is obsessed with desires.
Gu Qingyuan looked at it and said, "I want to hold the butcher knife, start killing evil, cut down mountains and destroy temples, capture evil spirits, kill gods and immortals, slaughter unrighteous gods, sweep away the old qi of the six heavens, and establish another three days of pure covenant. Has the Glazed Buddha taught me?"
Liuli Buddha: Are you going a little too extreme?
He sighed, "I know that your magical power is far greater than mine, but you have committed countless sins of killing. Under the cycle of cause and effect, you will be punished severely. Aren't you afraid that your cultivation will be like trying to catch the moon with a bamboo basket, and end up with nothing?"
"When the world is in chaos, how can we, as immortals and Buddhas, who sit high on the clouds and enjoy all the incense and worship from the world, turn a blind eye and turn a deaf ear?" Gu Qingyuan spoke righteously. It was his instinct to speak differently to different people. As for the real purpose, he had to hide it under a high-sounding pretext.
The glass Buddha sat upright and bowed: "Donor, you want to reshape the world for the benefit of all living beings. This old monk admires you."
"When the Lapis Lazuli Buddha saw that I was committing the sin of killing, didn't he say some verses to dissuade me by saying something like putting down the butcher knife and becoming a Buddha instantly?" Gu Qingyuan asked.
The Glass Buddha shook his head and said, "Putting down the butcher knife and becoming a Buddha right now actually means letting go of the ego and achieving tranquility and freedom. People have misunderstood this and it makes us think that Buddhism is a place that harbors filth and does not distinguish between right and wrong. Putting down the butcher knife, giving up the past, and leaving behind all the mistakes, if this can lead to becoming a Buddha, then the Buddha is no longer a Buddha, but a demon."
"I see that the secular world only sees monks, but not Buddhas; they only hear scriptures, but not the Dharma. They use the name of Buddha to do the things of the devil. I want to make a move in Buddhism first. Is the Glass Buddha willing?" asked Gu Qingyuan.
The Glazed Buddha sighed, "In the mortal world, Buddhas are destroying demons and demons are rising, which has damaged the reputation of my Western Paradise. I have also seen this and felt sympathetic. I am trapped in the underworld and cannot leave. If this continues, I am afraid that Buddhas will turn into demons and the Western Paradise will become a den of demons. Humans are the root of Buddhas, and the evil disease needs strong medicine to cure. Please give me what you want."
Seeing the Glass Buddha doing this, Gu Qingyuan secretly said that it was OK, and then said: "I don't know much about the Buddhist scriptures, please ask the Glass Buddha to help me."
The glass Buddha looked at Gu Qingyuan and stretched out his skinny hand: "Here are three copies of the "Ten Wheels of Broad Goodness Sutra", the "Sutra on the Retribution of Good and Evil Karmas", and the "Sutra on the Original Vow of Precious Light Glass to Save People". Please accept them."
Gu Qingyuan took the three scriptures and bowed respectfully: "Thank you, Buddha, for giving me the scriptures." He then stood up and looked at the Glass Buddha without saying anything else.
The Glazed Buddha looked at each other, and suddenly smiled while holding a flower: "If you have any requests, please tell me." Gu Qingyuan bowed again: "My plan still needs the help of the Glazed Buddha."
"How can I help?" asked the Glass Buddha.
“Please allow the Lapis Lazuli Buddha to enter Nirvana.” Gu Qingyuan replied.
The Glazed Buddha smiled and said, "It seems that what the donor said is true. Although I have telepathy to prove it, I cannot see the donor's thoughts or hear his voice. I just have a vague feeling. Now looking at what the donor has done, I think he must have a good plan to govern the world. I am very happy."
Gu Qingyuan has a lot of skills and is hiding his thoughts. Even if he can hear what is going on, it is just Gu Qingyuan's disguised thoughts.
"The Glazed Buddha doesn't complain?"
The glass Buddha had a look of detachment on his face: "We Buddhists clear away our worries, cut off the worldly affairs, seek tranquility, peace, perfection, fullness, and emptiness, and pursue the state of nirvana and transcendence. Why should we be afraid of extinction?"
"Besides, the donor came to me for help because he was really working hard for sentient beings. I am slow-witted and have not realized the true meaning of Buddhism, but I am always compassionate. Now the world is in chaos and people are confused. If I can contribute some strength to save sentient beings from suffering, what does it matter if I give up my golden body?"
Gu Qingyuan bowed his head: "Glass Buddha has mercy."
"Does the donor have anything else to ask?" asked Liuli Buddha. Seeing Gu Qingyuan shaking his head, he immediately sat cross-legged and chanted the Buddha's name loudly.
"Amitabha, good, good, good."
A happy smile appeared on the face of the Glass Buddha, and rays of Buddha's light emanated from the cracks in his golden body, enveloping his body and transforming into a relic that fell onto the lotus pedestal.
"Gu Qingyuan respectfully sends the Glazed Buddha back to the Western Paradise." Gu Qingyuan said his real name, and his heart also caught the last thought of the Glazed Buddha.
"What's the point of becoming a Buddha, what's the point of reciting sutras? In the end, you can't resist the temptation of worldly incense, your golden body will be lost, your glass will be covered with dust, and you will be ashamed of your Buddha. It's better to achieve nirvana and silence."
The glass Buddha accepted incense and had mixed thoughts, which he suppressed entirely with his own Buddhist heart. He persisted hard, fighting against himself, and it was difficult for him to hold himself together. How could it be described with just one word "suffering"?
He used to eat vegetarian food and chant Buddha's name, with a pure heart and a clear mind. But now, he has many distracting thoughts. Many ideas arise that are inconsistent with the scriptures, inconsistent with the Dharma, and even contrary to his heart. When the Glass Buddha saw Gu Qingyuan and understood his purpose, he couldn't help but feel overjoyed. If he died, he would die for the sake of the world, and it was also an explanation to himself, so he entered Nirvana in a hurry.
Gu Qingyuan also came up with an idea when he saw the Glass Buddha, whose face was like a calm lake but whose heart was like a madman, and which was completely suppressed by the power of Buddha.
He took the relic and looked at it carefully. The relic was not big, about the size of a baby's fist, with an uneven surface. It emitted a faint Buddha light, and Buddhist sounds came out, which could liberate the souls of the dead and guide the spirits of ghosts.
Gu Qingyuan took out the golden lotus again, forged it with fire, and a person appeared behind him.
"Please come with me, Daoist Dongquan. When the matter is done, I will return to the underworld and sit on the throne of King Yama."
Dongquan took the lotus platform:
"Good, I'll go."
